How we repair it

  1. 1

    Clean and camera

We clear the line, then run a camera inspection to locate the defect and its depth.

  2. 2

    Choose the repair

Based on the footage, a spot repair of the damaged section or replacement of a longer run. You get the findings before work starts.

  3. 3

    Repair and verify

We repair or replace the pipe, backfill, and finish with a closing camera pass.

Hydro jetting is done with Kuesel's hydro crew, and Kuesel, our sister company under Kuesel Holding Company, supports larger excavations. We work as one team.

Who's responsible for the sewer line?

In MSD's service area (City of St. Louis and most of St. Louis County), the building sewer from the building to the public sewer is the owner's private property. Owners keep the full length clear and repair breaks on their property. MSD may repair structural defects in the section within a public right-of-way or public easement, but not where a building sits over the sewer. Municipal lateral programs generally cover residential properties only. Outside MSD, including St. Charles County, check with your city or sewer district.

Commercial Sewer Line Repair FAQ

Do I need a camera inspection before a repair?

Usually, yes. Footage shows where the defect is, how deep it is and how much pipe is affected, so only the damaged section is dug up.

Will MSD pay for my sewer lateral?

The owner is responsible for the lateral on private property. MSD may repair structural defects within the public right-of-way or a public easement. Ask MSD before work starts.

Can you work around business hours?

Work can usually be scheduled around your operations.

What should I do while the sewer is backing up?

Stop using fixtures on that line, keep people away from any sewage, and call 636-978-0120 with the location and symptoms.
