Finding Leaks Before You Dig
Commercial leak detection finds where water is escaping from a building's supply piping, water service or underslab lines so the repair can be made in one place instead of chasing water across a floor or a site. We use acoustic leak detection and utility locating to pinpoint the leak, and sewer camera inspection with sonde locating when the problem is a drain or sewer line under the slab. Once the source is marked, our crews make the repair and restore service.
Leak detection is for buildings where water damage interrupts operations: restaurants, healthcare and dental offices, multifamily buildings, schools, industrial and warehouse facilities, and property managers handling tenant reports. For new and renovated spaces we also install smart leak detection — flow-based shutoff valves and acoustic leak loggers that catch leaks before they flood a finished space.
Legacy Plumbing serves St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. Charles County and Jefferson County from our O'Fallon, MO shop, and has since 1996, with UA Local 562 crews. Leak detection is scheduled Monday–Friday, 7am–4pm.

Commercial Leak Detection FAQ
How do plumbers find a leak in a commercial building?
We use acoustic leak detection and utility locating to pinpoint where water is escaping from supply piping or a water service. For drain and sewer lines, a camera with a sonde marks the defect's position and depth, so repairs are targeted to one spot instead of opening walls and floors.
Can you find a slab leak without tearing up the floor?
Locating comes before any demolition. Acoustic detection narrows supply leaks, and for drain lines under a slab we run a camera through a cleanout or pulled fixture and locate the defect with a sonde. The slab is then marked so only the necessary section is cut and excavated.
What are signs of a hidden water leak?
Common signs include water where it shouldn't be, damp or stained floors and walls, a drop in water pressure, and water use that doesn't match how the building operates. Smart flow-based monitoring can flag unusual usage early. If you notice these signs, schedule leak detection before the damage spreads.
Do you repair the leak after you find it?
Yes. Legacy Plumbing self-performs the repair after locating the leak, from supply piping and fixture connections to water lines and underslab work. For water service leaks, we build a shutdown plan with the water provider before excavation so the building is out of water for as little time as possible.
Can you install automatic leak detection and shutoff?
Yes. We install smart leak detection for commercial buildings, including flow-based shutoff valves, acoustic leak loggers and remote pressure monitoring that can shut off the water supply when an anomaly is detected. It is most often added during new construction, renovations and tenant build-outs.
